Melania Trump, Breaks With Husband, Defends LeBron James
First Lady Melania Trump publicly defended NBA great LeBron James after President Donald Trump attacked James on Twitter.
The president questioned the intelligence of James, who told CNN earlier this week that Trump is “using sports to kinda divide people,” notes CNBC.
Trump has publicly criticized black athletes who choose to peacefully protest police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem.
The first lady defended James in a statement through her spokesperson Stephanie Grisham:
It looks like LeBron James is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation and just as she always has, the First Lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today.
NBA legend Michael Jordan also defended James through a spokesperson on Twitter:
