Former Maryland chief medical examiner Dr. David Fowler is the latest defense witness for former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin who is on trial for murdering a Black man, George Floyd.
At the trial, Fowler contradicted most other expert witnesses in the trial and suggested that vehicle exhaust, carbon monoxide poisoning, killed Floyd. Fowler later had to admit there was no evidence of carbon monoxide in Floyd’s blood, notes Mother Jones.
Fowler has been accused of covering up a police killing of 19-year-old Anton Black, an African-American teenager who died after he was electrocuted by a Taser and crushed under the weight of three white police officers in 2018 on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, reports Democracy Now:
After an autopsy, Dr. Fowler ruled Black’s death an accident, and no one was charged with a crime. The wrongful death lawsuit says Dr. Fowler delayed release of an autopsy report for months and covered up police responsibility for Black’s death.
