“Today” show host Matt Lauer, who was fired today for alleged sexual misconduct with a female co-worker during the 2014 Olympics, was part of a skit that mocked sexual harassment on the “Today” show back in 2012.
Savannah Guthrie introduced “Today” journalist Jeff Rossen reporting on a fictional incident in which NBC News contributor Willie Geist smacked Lauer on the butt. The joke was supposed to be about men sexually harassing other men.
Lauer then gave an overdramatic interview in which he mocked the feigned sexual harassment:
I’m upset for a couple of reasons. One that he denied it. I mean why deny it? If you do it, own up to it. And secondly since it happened, he hasn’t called, he hasn’t written, nothing… I didn’t do anything differently. I wasn’t wearing a different cologne. It just–it just– this was uninitiated.
