Dr. Nnenna Aguocha was blocked by a man from entering a gated community on June 18 in Atlanta where she has owned a home for eight years.
Aguocha was trying to enter the Buckhead Townhome community when a property owner blocked her vehicle with his car for about half an hour.
Aguocha filmed part of the incident and narrated what was happening:
He got out of the car and threatened to call the police on me because I was trespassing. This is racial profiling at its finest. He called the police, so I called the police as well.
Police responded to the address for two separate calls.
Aguocha recalled the incident to WXIA:
I absolutely think it was racially motivated. When this altercation was going on, what went through my mind was this guy could do absolutely anything to me.
He could shoot me dead on the spot because he was trying to protect the neighborhood and the property and people would make up stories later.
After police arrived, the man finally moved his vehicle.
The man told police that he blocked the black doctor out of safety concerns because there had been robberies in the area, but president of the homeowners association had no knowledge of any robberies.
Agoucha said people feel more comfortable doing racist actions these days:
[They] do whatever they want to do because there are no repercussions. I know that things like this happen all the time and I am not exempt like that so I’m not surprised.
Amazingly, no charges were filed by police in the incident.
