Los Angeles police killed a stabbing suspect and a female hostage after escalating the situation outside a church on June 16.
Newly-released body cam video shows the officers screaming wildly: “Drop the knife!” and “Bean bag ready!” at Guillermo Perez, who was suspected of stabbing his ex-girlfriend.
As the officers get closer, they see Perez has a knife to the throat of an innocent female bystander, Elizabeth Tollison.
Instead of de-escalating the situation, the cops yell and fire their guns, killing both Perez and Tollison.
The police continue to yell for Perez to drop the knife after Perez was apparently dead.
LAPD Chief Michel Moore said. “[Three officers shot at Perez to stop his actions and prevent him from killing the hostage.”
Moore falsely claimed it had been 13 years since an officer’s gunfire killed an innocent bystander or hostage.
In the last six weeks, it’s happened twice, notes KABC.
KCBS reported that a bystander, Melyda “Mely” Corado, was killed by LAPD officers on July 21 outside a Trader Joe’s store.
