Parents are furious because Phillipsburg Middle School in Kansas removed patches of hair from children in order to drug test them.
Superintendent Mike Gower defended the random drug testing, which is normally the role of law enforcement, by claiming parents were notified of the day their child will be tested, notes KWCH.
Gower claimed the school was performing this (law enforcement) tactic at the request of parents because hair follicle testing can show whether someone has been using drugs back 90 days:
I’m not going to throw the [drug testing] company under the bus or the board or anybody else,. I’m the superintendent, what happens here is on me. I apologize to those kids and those parents. We’re taking steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
