Ivanka Trump called her father’s immigrant child separation policy a “low point” during an interview with Axios:
That was a low point as well. I felt very strongly about that. I am very vehemently against family separation and the separation of parents and children…
Trump then tried to switch the topic to children being trafficked.
Immigration is an incredibly complex as a topic. Illegal immigration is incredibly complicated. I am the daughter of an immigrant. My mother grew up in communist Czech Republic. But we’re a country of laws. She came to this country legally.
We have to be very careful about incentivizing behavior that puts children st risk of being trafficked by coyotes or making an incredibly dangerous journey alone.
