Homeless Man Defends Shaving On Train: ‘My Life Is All Screwed Up’

Anthony Torres was mocked online after being filmed shaving while on a New Jersey Transit train headed out of New York City on Sept. 13.

The 56-year-old man told The Associated Press that he was just trying to clean up after days spent in a homeless shelter, notes WCBS:

My life is all screwed up. That’s the reason I was shaving on the train.

Fellow passenger Pete Bentivegna filmed and tweeted videos of Torres shaving and tossing the shaving cream from the razor onto the floor.

Torres was mocked by the kind people on Twitter who called him a “slob,” ”animal” and “nasty.”

Torres said had been homeless and staying in a shelter in New York City, but reached out to his family for help.

Torres’ brother gave him money for a train ticket, which Torres was using to get to another brother in Trenton, New Jersey,

Torres  said he left the shelter before having a chance to shower and clean up and wanted to look “presentable”:

I don’t want to say that I’m homeless, let everybody know. That’s why I was shaving.

Torres said he was amazed and a little upset about being mocked on Twitter.

I never thought it would go viral, people making fun of me.

Torres said he worked a number of different jobs, and even  moved to wherever the work was.

Torres said he had two strokes in the past two years.
