History Of White Power And Paramilitary Violence In The U.S.

Kathleen Belew, an assistant professor of history at the University of Chicago. spoke to Democracy Now about her new book “Bring the War Home: The White Power Movement and Paramilitary America.”

Belew explained the white power flashpoints in modern U.S. history: the Turner Diaries, the Branch Davidian standoff in Waco, Texas, and the Oklahoma City bombing by Timothy McVeigh (who used the Branch Davidian anniversary).

Belew also discussed how some U.S. Vietnam veterans  have used their military experience to join mercenary groups in foreign countries where they practice anti-Democratic tactics, which they brought home to the U.S.

Belew also talked about the role of women in white supremacy movements.
