GOP Rep. Pat Meehan Blames His Behavior With Female Aide On Obamacare
Republican Rep. Patrick Meehan of Pennsylvania has denied sexually harassing a former female aide, but claims his behavior towards her was caused by the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
The 62-year-old congressman secretly spent thousands of taxpayer dollars to pay a settlement to the female aide who claimed Mehhan made unwanted romantic overtures to her in 2017, reported The New York Times.
Meehan told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he acted “selfishly” and when he learned the decades-younger female aide — whom he called his “soul mate” — had began a dating a man.
Meehan, who is married, said any anger he felt at the time was caused by GOP efforts to repeal Obamacare. Meehan refused to disclose the amount of tax money paid to the aide, which he called “severance” not a “settlement.”
If Meehan and his fellow Republicans had been successful at least 16 million Americans would have lost their health insurance and pre-existing conditions would have returned.
