Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney of New York voiced her opposition to research into gun violence and praised the NRA — funded by millions of dollars from gun manufacturers — during a debate on Nov. 1:
One of the things the NRA does, it was actually founded in New York City. The prime purpose, the reason that [the] NRA was founded was to provide education and safety for people handling firearms. So we want to spend more tax dollars to study something that we already know a lot about? I don’t think that’s a good use of taxpayer money.
In February, after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Tenney falsely claimed on Talk 1300 Radio in Albany that “so many of these people that commit mass murders end up being Democrats.”
