GOP Candidate John James Told Black Leaders It’s Useless to Speak Out on Trump’s Racism, Then Attacked Biden Twice Over Racial Joke
Republican John James, who is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, told black leaders in Michigan on April 30 that is was pointless to call out President Donald Trump’s racists statements.
When African-American leaders why he had not spoken out Trump’s many racist remarks, James said he was focused on the “prosperity agenda,” reports Salon (video is at link):
When I do talk about a prosperity agenda, that’s the goal, is achieving equity and equality for our people, not standing up on Twitter and condemning folks. We’ve had our minds twisted to believe that speaking out is tantamount to fixing things.
On May 22, James stood up on Twitter and condemned former Vice President Joe Biden for joking: “”if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”:
Vice President @JoeBiden ‘s latest quote is both pathetic & hurtful. Challenging millions on their blackness is condescending. The GOP was started to oppose slavery. I have the right to think and vote for myself along with all other Americans, including black Americans. pic.twitter.com/RRURX1eMbY— John James (@JohnJamesMI) May 22, 2020
James attacked Biden a second time in a May 24 article on FoxNews.com.
