Former coal miners slammed President Donald Trump for giving people “false hope” that coal jobs are returning, which is not likely because natural gas is much cleaner and cheaper.
For years, Trump has promised coal jobs — which have beeen declining since the 19080s — would return by getting rid of safety regulations that protect miners’ health.
Former miner and coal mining consultant Arthur Sullivan told CNN how the miners had been lied to by Trump:
He’s trying to get [miners’] votes, he isn’t telling them the truth. He’s lying to them.
Former coal miner Blair Zimmerman said Trump was “absolutely” giving miners “false hope” about a coal revival:
Deregulating stuff will help this much. It’s not going to help a lot.
