Florida Official, Who Held Pro-Gun Protest Against Parkland Teens, Fatally Shoots Fleeing Alleged Shoplifter

Police in Lakeland, Florida, released a surveillance video of City Commissioner Michael Dunn fatally shooting an alleged shoplifter, Christobal Lopez, on Oct. 3.

Investigators are still trying to decide whether or not to charge Dunn who fired at Lopez who was fleeing the Vets Army Navy Surplus store, notes the Tampa Bay Times.

Lopez shook physically after being shot as Dunn kept his gun aimed at the dying man.

Dunn’s attorney, Rusty Franklin, has claimed that Dunn was justified in shooting Lopez — who was clearly trying to get away — because Lopez was holding an alleged stolen hatchet.

This is reportedly the second time Dunn has shot someone, the first being an accidental and non-fatal incident when he was 19 years old.

The Tampa Bay Times notes that Dunn hosted a counter-rally to a March for Our Lives gun control protest, promoted by Parkland teen shooting survivors, at his store in June.
