CNN reports that Florida set a new record for the most new cases in a single day from any state with 15,300 COVID-19 cases on June 11.
More than 100 countries have fewer Covid-19 cases than Florida (282,435) including Italy (243,230), Australia (9,980), South Korea (13,479),= and China (85,117), per data from Johns Hopkins University.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called the record numbers a “blip,” and added there have been “a lot of different blips,” notes the Daily Beast.
DeSantis bragged on May 20 about how low Florida’s COVID-19 numbers were in comparison to New York, but his victory lap has turned into a public embarrassment.

Marlyn Hoilette, a nurse who worked at the Palms West Hospital in Loxahatchee. Florida until testing positive for COVID-19 recently, told the Associated Press that medical workers are getting sick:
Nurses are getting sick, nursing assistants are getting sick and my biggest fear is that it seems we want to return folks to work even without a negative test. It’s just a matter of time before you wipe the other staff out if you’re contagious, so that is a big problem.
