Gun supporter Alan Tripp told MSNBC that he was voting for Republican governor candidate Ron DeSantis because people like him did not kill anyone during the Obama years:
[Trump] uncovered the divisiveness of this country. He did not do this himself. It was there. We lived through eight years of the Obama administration. We didn’t riot. We didn’t burn any cars. We didn’t turn over any police cars. We didn’t kill anyone. We lived through it. They’ll live through it.
In reality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in 2017 that there were more than 38,000 gun-related deaths in the U.S. in 2016, noted TIME.
About two-thirds gun-related deaths in America were suicides by people who own guns.
