A police body camera video has surfaced that shows Police Officer Jon Cusack being dragged by a car driven by a suspect for over half a mile in Pembroke Pine, Florida.
Cusack responded to a call at a retirement community after residents reported two people unconscious in a parked car, notes WTVJ.
Cusack approached a black Honda and discovered a man and woman, unresponsive or asleep.
According to police, a baggie with an unknown substance was visible in the car, but no drug charges were ever filed.
When Cusack tried to wake the couple up, the male driver, identified as Thomas Cabrera, drove off while Cusack held on to the door’s frame, reports WTVJ.
After Cusack let go and fell on the ground, his uniform and shoes “were shredded from being dragged along the roadway,” said the police report.
Cabrera reportedly led police on a chase through Broward County, reaching speeds of over 100 mph, before his car was slowed by traffic and he was apprehended.
Cabrera was charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
Cusack will reportedly undergo surgery for “significant road rash injuries” to his arms and legs.
