Fireworks Barge Blows Up On New Year’s Eve In Australia

Thousands of people had to evacuate Terrigal Beach in Australia after a barge carrying fireworks exploded on New Year’s Eve.

Videos and pictures of the fireworks going off uncontrollably were posted on Twitter (below).

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that two technicians on the barge had to dive into the water to escape the explosions that started about five minutes into the 9pm show.

A NSW police spokesman stated: “Two men on the barge suffered minor injuries and were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital.”

The spokesman said that a “large crowd on the beachfront was evacuated as a precaution.”
