A man and his parrot were rescued from mud in Belleville, Illinois, on Aug. 12.
The man got stuck in the waist-deep mud when he tried to rescue his parrot from a dredged lake at Bicentennial Park, notes the Belleville News-Democrat.
Belleville Fire Chief Tom Pour described the situation:
He was probably several hundred feet out into the mud with the parrot on his back. It was challenging because you couldn’t just walk out there and hoist him out. It was like quicksand. It was a pretty unusual thing.
Firefighters laid multiple ladders down in order to create a bridge.
