A former Marine, Zandrea Askew, has sued the LaSalle County Sheriff’s office in Illinois for forcibly strip searching her after she was arrested on suspicion of DUI in 2017 (full video below).
Askew’s federal lawsuit says three female deputies “humiliated, degraded and dehumanized” her, notes WBBM.
Askew’s lawsuit says she was sitting in her parked car when two LaSalle County sheriff’s deputies questioned her, and ordered her to take field sobriety tests, even though she had not committed any traffic violations.
The lawsuit claims Askew passed all of the tests, and showed no signs of being drunk, or under the influence of drugs, but she was still arrested for DUI.
Deputies claimed Askew was “very disoriented and confused” in her car, but her lawyer Terry Ekl said Askew had pulled her car over because she was ill, and on prescription medications.
LaSalle County paid out $355,000 to settle lawsuits filed by five other women who were strip searched in 2015.
