Don Blankenship, a former mining company executive who went to jail in 2016 for his culpability in the deaths of 29 miners, is running as a Republican for a U.S. Senate seat to represent West Virginia.
His recent surge in the polls, notes CNN, brought a negative reaction from President Donald Trump on Twitter:
To the great people of West Virginia we have, together, a really great chance to keep making a big difference. Problem is, Don Blankenship, currently running for Senate, can’t win the General Election in your State…No way! Remember Alabama. Vote Rep. Jenkins or A.G. Morrisey!

Blankenship responded that he was “Trumpier than Trump,” tweeted CNN reporter Dan Merica :
Blankenship added: “Tomorrow, West Virginia will send the swamp a message—no one, and I mean no one, will tell us how to vote. As some have said, I am Trumpier than Trump and this morning proves it.”
No one, I guess, includes the President. https://t.co/iaaT91dMKF
