Evangelist Franklin Graham Defends Roy Moore After 9 Women Come Forward
UPDATE: Graham defends Moore a second time.
Evangelist Franklin Graham issued a thinly-veiled defense of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore, who has been accused of sexual misconduct with nine women, including one attempted rape.
Moore has denied the allegations.
Graham wrote on Facebook that he spoke on the phone to Moore, and is praying that the “lies will be seen for what they are”:
Roy Moore has been in the news continually for the last several weeks with a number of accusations that would be troubling if they are true. Here’s the letter he posted to Sean Hannity giving his side of the story.
I met Roy Moore when I was in Alabama last year, and I talked to him a few days ago from Norway and asked him if these allegations were true. He said absolutely not.
You can read his detailed response for yourself. My prayer is that the truth will ultimately be revealed and lies will be seen for what they are.
The Alabama Republican Party said that it is standing behind Moore, notes The New York Times:
Judge Moore has vehemently denied the allegations made against him. He deserves to be presumed innocent of the accusations unless proven otherwise.
