Democrat Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema Side With Republicans to Keep Filibuster and Block Democrat Control of Senate
The Washington Post reports that Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin III (WVa) and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz) are siding with Republican minority leader Mitch McConnell to keep the filibuster rule in the Senate, which will mean that 60 votes would be needed to pass legislation.
If the filibuster rule was ended, 50 Democratic senators could pass any legislation with one tie-breaking vote by Vice President Kamala Harris. President Joe Biden is eager to pass his $1.9 trillion aid plan, which includes a $1,400 aid package for each American, but many Republicans oppose the financial help.
