A woman with multiple sclerosis, Maria Saliagas, claims that Delta Air Lines employees used a dirty blanket to tie her to her wheelchair on April 1.
Her son Nathan told WSB-TV that he informed Delta of her special needs when he bought the airline ticket for her:
They took a dirty blanket and tied her forcefully with it and she has bruise marks on part of her arm because it was so tight and she started crying. That’s when that picture was taken.
Nathan subsequently a picture of his mom on Twitter at the Atlanta airport where she departed for Amsterdam with her husband:
#Delta used a dirty blanket off of the floor to tie my mom to a broken wheelchair, with it so tight that it bruised her. Delta supervisor then cursed at her as she cried. How dare you @Delta. Your answer was miles. My demand is refund. Shameful. #abuse pic.twitter.com/H3XUFX0jxa

A Delta rep. issued a statement about the “perception” of their service:
We regret the perception our service has left on these customers. We have reached out to them, not only to resolve their concerns, but also ensure that their return flight exceeds expectations.
The family said Delta offered them 20,000 free SkyMiles, but they want to see a Delta policy change for people with disabilities.
