A father and stepmother have been suspended from their volunteer firefighter positions in Haskins, Ohio, after being accused of punishing the dad’s daughter for getting highlights in her hair.
Haskins Police Chief Colby Carroll told WJW that that the girl’s mom says the girl’s stepmother and father ordered the haircut as punishment:
I’ve been doing this since ’92 and I’ve never had a case I would say that’s like this. Mom was upset with how her child was being cared for, lack of better terms.
The girl’s mom, Christin Johnson, posted a picture of her daughter’s long hair and chopped off cut on Facebook on Jan. 31:
This is what my daughter looked like Sunday when I took her home and the other two pics is what happened today before she was brought to me… all over me having highlights put in her hair for her birthday!
Middleton Township Fire Chief Steve Asmus said the two firefighters would remain on leave pending the outcome of investigation by police and Wood County Children’s Services.
