Couple Shot In Church While Discussing Church Shootings
A law-abiding gun owner accidentally shot himself and his dear wife at the United Methodist Church in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, on Nov. 16 during a Thanksgiving gathering.
The shooting happened during a discussion about church shootings in the news, notes WATE.
The man told his fellow Christians that he always carried a gun, took the weapon out, emptied the magazine and chamber, and passed the gun around.
When the gun was handed back to the responsible owner, he put the magazine back in the weapon, recharged the chamber, and accidentally shot himself in the hand and his wife in the abdomen, according to police.
The couple was taken to the hospital by helicopter for their non-life threatening injuries.
Nearby schools were put on lockdown during the initial investigation at taxpayer expense.
