Police forced doctors at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, New York to perform a rectal probe on a black man for drugs even after an X-ray showed nothing in 2017.
At least two doctors resisted threading an 8-inch flexible tube into the rectum of Torrence Jackson in a search for illegal drugs, notes Syracuse.com.
Eight police officers were at the hospital where one doctor told them: “We would not be doing that.”
However, the hospital lawyer overruled the doctors because a judge signed a warrant for the rectal violation.
The government-ordered forced sigmoidoscopy failed to show any evidence of a misdemeanor or low-level felony charge.
Jackson’s defense lawyer Charles Keller was stunned: “The whole thing is cuckoo nuts to me. What country are we living in?”
St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center sent Jackson, who did not give informed consent, a bill for $4,595.12.
