Los Angeles-based radio host Frank Sontag claimed on the Christian station KKLA that California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s new COVID-19 safety precautions in response to an increase in cornavirus deaths and infections was some kind of “mind-control” conspiracy:
During his bizarre rant, Sontag failed to provide one piece of evidence for his claim. Instead, he cited his former experience in the New Age movement and supposed commands from God to speak on the topic.
Sontag also tried to blame Newsom’s prior lockdown for suicides, again, without any evidence.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Newsom is imposing the restrictions before the July 4 holiday weekend on “indoor restaurants, bars, wineries and tasting rooms, entertainment centers, movie theaters, zoos, museums and card rooms for the next three weeks in Los Angeles, Riverside, Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino and Sacramento counties and other regions hard hit by the virus.”
Barbara Ferrer, director of public health for Los Angeles County, said that new data shows “alarming increases in cases, positivity rates and hospitalization,” reports the Los Angeles Times:
There’s so much at stake, since these continued increases will result in many more people becoming seriously ill, and many more deaths of COVID-19.
Los Angeles County has nearly 98,000 confirmed cases and more than 3,300 deaths so far.
Dr. Christina Ghaly, Los Angeles County’s director of health services, agreed:
We are seeing an increase in transmission. We’re seeing more people get sick and go into the hospital. This is very much a change in the trajectory of the epidemic over the past several days. It’s a change for the worse and a cause for concern.
