British Royal Baby Delivery Was Cheaper Than Average American Baby
On April 24, Princess Kate gave birth to her third child at the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London, which was cheaper than an average American baby birth.
The Economist notes that the cost of Princess Kate’s birth was $8,900, while the average cost of an American baby was $10,808 in 2015, per a survey by the International Federation of Health Plans
The U.S. birth actually balloons up to about $30,000 if the care before and after the pregnancy is included, according to Truven Health Analytics.
While Americans get a regular room for their birth, The Economist reports that the “Lindo Wing, a luxurious private maternity ward in London that has often been used by the royals and which boasts a comprehensive wine list.”
A source told PEOPLE that Prince William and Princess Kate celebrated the birth by toasting champagne in their hospital room with their medical staff.
