A police officer shot and killed a black woman, Pamela Turner, seconds after she told him that she was pregnant on May 13 in Baytown, Texas.
The Baytown Police Department said the officer was on patrol when he came across Turner, whom he recognized from “prior dealings” and knew she had warrants out for her arrest.
Lisa Carr, who lives several apartments from where the shooting took place, described the shooting to KPRC:
He shot her, (standing) over her, five times. “Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam.” She said, ‘Get off of me. I’m pregnant,’ and (then) he turned around and stung her.” She took (the Taser) from him and shot him. And that’s when you turn around and he say, “Bam, bam, bam,’” and just shot her like that.
Lt. Steve Dorris, with the Baytown Police Department, claimed it was “extremely disrespectful” for a witness to film the officer executing Turner and share it online:
It’s unfortunate that somebody takes a tragic incident like this and posts it on social media. It’s extremely disrespectful for everybody involved, but that’s the day and age we live in with social media.
Turner’s sister, Antoinette, said her sibling was was on medication for schizophrenia.
Antoinette also said the officer, who killed Turner, was Turner’s neighbor and she had previously complained about him harassing her.
Turner’s family members were not able to confirm that Turner was pregnant, and police will not be able to confirm the claim until an autopsy is done.
