Wells County Environmental Health Specialist, Brandi Schorey, said the department of health issued a verbal warning and cease-and-desist order to Yergler after getting dozens of complaints about Yergy’s BBQ not requiring employees to wear masks during the worst pandemic in 100 years, reports WANE.
In response, Yergler told the Wells County Board of Health on Aug. 27 how the restaurant belongs to God, reports:
God has given us a restaurant 3 and a half years ago. It is his. And that’s the way we view it.
Yergler said he took the health of employees and customers seriously, and then claimed that science does not back up the effectiveness of masks.
After denying science, Yergler concluded by invoking Jesus to defy the board of health:
You people have no power over us. Christ is king. So, you can’t take my business from me when we are willingly laying it down. That must make tyrants angry but it should soften the hearts that you oppress.
