A graduation coach was filmed body slamming a 17-year-old student at South Atlanta High School on Oct. 3.
The 17-year-old told WSB-TV that he touched teacher Henry Coleman on the shoulder and said, “What’s up?”:
I just felt my body, my whole body, just fly into the table with books on it. He came to the table, slung me off the table to the ground.
The student said other students have bullied him for getting the coach in trouble for assaulting him.
The student was initially charged by police for touching the teacher, but the school pushed for the charges to be dropped.
Now, Coleman has been charged with simple battery.
The teen’s father, Jamil Koonce, doesn’t feel that’s serious enough:
Oh, no way, no way. That was not a battery. That was a brutal attack. That was aggravated assault, cruelty to children.
The student no longer attends South Atlanta High School, and Coleman has been fired.
