Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms called for the “immediate termination” of the police officer who shot and killed Rayshard Brooks outside a Wendy’s restaurant drive-thru on June 12. The mayor also announced that Atlanta’s Police, Chief Ericka Shields, has chosen to resign (MORE VIDEOS BELOW).
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vic Reynolds said police were called to the fast-food restaurant about a man sleeping in his vehicle, which forced other customers to go around his car to get their (unhealthy) fried food, notes the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Reynolds said Brooks failed a field sobriety test, and when police officers tried to arrest him, there was a struggle.
A surveillance video and a cell phone video by a witness in a white car shows a struggle in which Brooks appears to take one of the officer’s Taser guns.
The police claimed Brooks fired the Taser at the officer while running away from him. The officer shot and killed Brooks in the parking lot as children in the white car watched.
