Six militia members — Brandon Caserta, Barry Croft, Adam Fox, Kaleb Franks, Ty Garbin and Daniel Harris — have been accused by the FBI of plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and try her for treason because of her COVID-19 safety rules, which include mask wearing and social distancing (MORE VIDEO BELOW).
The Michigan-based militia group was allegedly trying recruit more members to storm the Capitol building in Lansing and take hostages, including Whitmer, before the November 2020 election, reports WXYZ.
The militia group also reportedly planned to abduct Whitmer at her vacation home and take her to a location in Wisconsin for a “trial.”
The idea for the kidnapping plot reportedly started after gun-toting militia members and protesters rushed the Michigan State Capitol on April 30 to protest Witmer’s safety mask mandate and coronavirus quarantine.
Trump praised militia members and protesters as “very good people” on May 1.
The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire. These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 1, 2020
One of the suspects was taken into custody and the suspect’s home was searched by the FBI and Michigan State Police on Oct. 8.
The FBI also raided a vacuum shop where Fox was reportedly living. The shop’s owner, Brian Titus, told WOODTV that he knew Fox was a militia member, but didn’t realize how extreme his anti-government views were.
Titus said Fox, who was homeless, opposed wearing a safety mask because he thought it violated his civil rights:
He was anti-police, anti-government. He was afraid if he didn’t stand up for the Second Amendment and his rights that the country is going to go communism and socialism.
