Police body cam video has surfaced of Republican Oklahoma state Sen. Ralph Shortey being caught by the cops with a 17-year-old boy inside a hotel room in Moore, Oklahoma, on March 9, 2017.
Shortey was wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a sandwich on it and the words: “Now make me a sandwich.” The shirt also included a Bible verse about women submitting to their husbands, reports KFOR.
When asked by police about what he was doing in the room with the teen, Shortey replied:
We were just hanging out, talking about life and stuff. We’ve been talking for a few months about. Tomorrow, he told me he was going to get his GED. Couldn’t graduate high school and was trying to get his life on track.
Amazingly, the police did not arrest Shortey that night, but eventually charged him with child sex trafficking and child pornography; Shortey resigned his seat.
The Associated Press noted in March that Shortey, who is married to a woman with whom he fathered three children, “routinely voted with his Republican colleagues on bills targeting gay and transgender people.”
Shorter recently pleaded guilty to the charge child sex trafficking.
