Another Mark Zuckerberg Promise Broken: Facebook Network Breach Exposes 50 Million Users
Another promise by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to protect the private information of Facebook users was broken this week as 50 million people were compromised.
The social media giant confirmed that its “view as” feature — which allows users to view their own profiles as if they were someone else — was used to illegally access millions of accounts, notes The New York Times.
As he has many times over several years, Zuckerberg promised that Facebook is “taking it really seriously.”
Zuckerberg, as he has many times before, congratulated his team over another Facebook failure:
We have a major security effort at the company that hardens all of our surfaces. I’m glad we found this. But it definitely is an issue that this happened in the first place.
The New York Times notes: “More than 90 million Facebook users were forced to log out of their accounts early Friday, a common safety measure taken when accounts have been compromised.”
