Ambien Maker Slams Roseanne For Blaming Ambien For Her Racist Tweet
Comedienne Roseanne Barr tried to blame the sleep medication Ambien for her most recent racist tweet, but the company that makes Ambien pushed back.
After Barr lost her TV show and her agents fired her, she claimed that “it was 2 in the morning and I was Ambien tweeting.”
However, that would not explain Barr’s long history of racist tweets, reported by Vox.
Sanofi, the pharmaceutical company behind Ambien, tweeted:
People of all races, religions and nationalities work at Sanofi every day to improve the lives of people around the world. While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.

Other folks on Twitter mocked Barr’s ambient excuse, including CNN’s John Berman:
I have only taken Ambien once…but I don’t remember one of the side-effects being racism.

Between Roseanne’s Ambien and Rose McGowan’s marijuana-related “what if you replaced ‘women’ with the n-word” tweet, somebody’s got to study the pharmacology of drug-induced racism in white women! https://t.co/2IskphR89S

Now I am sure the makers of Ambien are not happy with @therealroseanne ! Girl just stop and go to a retreat somewhere for awhile. You messed up and your clean up is so bad. Stay off the phone, twitter and don’t listen to other racist folks supporting your mess.

I was on Ambien when I created mankind.

Who among us hasn’t taken Ambien, sleepwalked down to the fridge, and posted dozens of racist tweets over several years

“Empire State of Mind” wouldn’t have included the lyrics “The city never sleeps, better slip you an Ambien” if Ambien makes you racist.

Guys, don’t take Ambien. Side effects include a retroactive decade of open bigotry that everyone can remember.

Ask your doctor if blaming Ambien for your racism is right for you.

The name Ambien is thought to come from the word “ambient” or similar words in French. Ambient does not mean “prone to making racist comments,” but it does mean “of the surrounding area or environment.” https://t.co/UpYY5eKzIo https://t.co/XsPn8FthV5
