Amazon Defeat In NYC Galvanizes Movement To End Billion-Dollar Corporate Welfare

Amazon dropped its plans to build facility in New York City after grassroots activists and local politicians opposed the deal, which included nearly $3 billion in corporate welfare (tax subsidies) from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, notes Democracy Now.

The lawmakers who took down Amazon say their victory is just the beginning of their fight against “corporate welfare.”

New York State Assemblymember Ron Kim has introduced the End of Corporate Welfare Act to the state Legislature.
