650 COVID-19 Cases Linked to Nearly 40 Reopened Churches, 82 Coronavirus Cases From Just 1 Christian Camp
Churches that reopened across the U.S. are now emerging as sources of new COVID-19 cases.
President Donald Trump said in May that churches needed to reopen in May: “We have to get our people back to churches, and we’re going to start doing it soon.“
Trump supporter Pastor Jack Hibbs said that reopening Calvary Church in Chino Hills, California on May 31 “was “absolutely amazing” and was “the way God intended it.”
The New York Times reports that “more than 650 coronavirus cases have been linked to nearly 40 churches and religious events across the United States since the beginning of the pandemic, with many of them erupting over the last month as Americans resumed their pre-pandemic activities.”
NPR reports that at least 82 COVID-19 cases are linked to a Christian sleepaway camp in Lampe, Missouri.
The Stone County Health Department announced that the Kanakuk K-2 Camp had to be closed after dozens of staff, campers and counselors tested positive for COVID-19.
